Immediate results and production
These ‘old’ apple trees provide instant mature structure, character and yield in the garden; full-grown specimens in ample pots, ready for immediate planting.
The Malus domestica ‘Stersappel’ is a traditional Dutch apple variety known for its smaller, sweet and sour apples with a distinct aroma. The variety is loved for its decorative fruit with the distinctive star pattern in the core cross-section. The apples are ideal for fresh use, but also well suited for purée, juice and decorative uses. This old apple tree comes at a height of approximately 2 metres, raised in a 45 litre pot at rootstock M9. This rootstock provides a more compact growth, easy manageability and rapid fruit production.
The Star Apple blooms profusely in spring with white to soft pink blossoms that attract many bees. Harvesting falls in the late summer to autumn, where the tree produces small to medium-sized fruits with a distinctive flavour and a beautiful, red blush. The star apple is not fully self-pollinating, making a good pollinator desirable, such as ‘Elstar’, ‘James Grieve’ or ‘Sweet Emgaard’.
This apple tree is hardy, resistant to changing weather conditions and feels best at home on a sunny, fertile and well-drained soil. The compact growth of the M9 rootstock keeps the tree orderly and makes it particularly suitable for smaller gardens or orchards. Thanks to its mature age, the tree delivers fruit immediately and gives immediate body and character to the garden.
For safe transport, these heavy trees are shipped on a pallet.
