The Pyrus pyrifolia 'Kosui', better known as the Nashi pear, combines the sweetness of a pear with the crispness of an apple in a compact tree that fits perfectly in any garden. The golden brown fruits have a smooth skin and offer a refined, juicy taste with hints of pear, apple and melon.
This variety flowers profusely in April, when the entire tree can be covered in beautiful blossoms that attract bees and bumblebees. Although 'Kosui' is partially self-pollinating, a richer harvest is promoted by cross-pollinating with other Nashi pears, such as 'Hosui' or 'Nijisseiki'.
The fruits ripen in August and are not only delicious to eat fresh, but also versatile to use in salads, desserts and baking recipes. In addition, the fruits can be preserved for long-lasting enjoyment.
The tree grows to a height of 3-5 meters, is not very susceptible to diseases and thrives best in full sun on well-drained soil. Even in a cold spring this tree often produces a rich harvest. The 'Kosui' is an excellent choice for lovers of special fruit trees.
