The Diospyros khaki<\/em> \u2018Mela\u2019 is a special apple-like variety of Sharon fruit<\/strong> which can be eaten straight after harvesting, without any astringent aftertaste and without needing to soften first. Its firm, crisp texture and sweet flavour make this variety ideal for anyone who loves fresh, crunchy fruit. \u2018Mela\u2019 combines excellent flavour with high ornamental value and reliable yields, making it perfect for both the fruit garden and the ornamental garden.<\/p>\n

The tree grows to a medium size and forms a broad, rounded crown with large, glossy leaves. In autumn, the leaves turn a spectacular shade of red-orange, making the tree a real eye-catcher even when it is not bearing fruit. In May\u2013June, small, yellowish-white flowers appear. The fruits are round to slightly flattened, glossy orange and have a surprisingly firm, sweet flesh \u2013 just like an apple.<\/p>\n
