The Malus domestica 'Trio' has 3 different apple varieties growing on one tree. The apples are grafted onto a special slow-growing rootstock, which prevents the tree from growing too large and produces fruit quickly. This tree produces three different types of apples: Jonagold, Idared and Red Delicious.
These three varieties are chosen so that they ripen one after the other and also pollinate each other. With Malus domestica 'Trio apple', you therefore need very little space to grow three delicious varieties of apples from your own garden.
This tree is suitable for the garden and also perfect for a pot on patio or balcony. In the pot, they do not grow taller than about 1.5 metres. This apple tree is delivered as root stock, without pot and leaves.
This tree has three main branches angled upwards. Each main branch is an apple. You can extend these three main branches by allowing the buds to grow through.
The tree is easy to prune. Cut off the buds when they have reached the height you have in mind. New branches will grow from the three main branches every year. Cut these branches back at 10 cm from the main branch. The short 10 cm branches that remain will grow thicker. In the course of the years, flowers will form on these branches, which may turn into fruit. You can prune throughout the year.
