The almond tree, also known as Prunus dulcis, is a particularly beautiful and productive tree suitable for the private garden and the Dutch climate. Almonds are special fruit and nut trees that not only give a tasty harvest, but also have high ornamental value thanks to their early flowering in spring. They fit well in the garden, orchard or in a sheltered spot in the border. Almond trees grow into compact to medium-sized trees and are therefore also suitable for smaller gardens. All almond trees are grown with care and delivered directly from the grower, so you can be assured of strong plants with a good start.
The fruits of the almond tree are nuts, which can be found in a hard shell that opens only when the almonds are fully ripe. Rich in fats, proteins, minerals and vitamins, these nuts can be used in a variety of dishes, from sweets to salads and pastries.

Planting and start
Almond trees are preferably planted in autumn or early spring, when the tree is dormant. Choose a well-drained, airy soil and ensure a spacious planting hole. After planting, give plenty of water so that the roots can get well established.
Stand and soil
Almond trees love warmth and light.
- A sunny, sheltered position promotes flowering and fruiting
- Well-drained soil is important to avoid root problems
- Slightly calcareous soil contributes to healthy growth
Care during the year
- Water regularly during dry periods, especially on young trees
- Mulch around the tree helps retain moisture and improves soil structure
- A light fertiliser can be given in spring to support growth
Pruning and maintenance
Almond trees require little pruning.
- Preferably prune after flowering or in summer
- Remove dead, damaged or crossing branches
- Maintain an open crown for light and air
With proper care, the almond tree grows into a strong tree that combines years of flowering, ornamental value and its own harvest.
