The Pyrus pyrifolia 'Shinko' is a popular Nashi pear with apple-shaped, bronze-coloured fruits. The juicy, crunchy flesh has a delicious, sweet taste with a hint of caramel. This pear is perfect for eating fresh, but also ideal for use in salads, desserts or for pickling. In addition, 'Shinko' is known for its excellent shelf life, so you can enjoy the harvest for a long time.
The tree blooms profusely in April with fragrant, creamy white flowers that attract many bees and bumblebees. Although the 'Shinko' is self-pollinating, cross-pollination with other Nashi pear varieties, such as 'Hosui' and 'Shinseiki', produces a richer harvest. The fruits are ripe in September and easy to pick.
