Want exceptional fruit on your terrace or in the garden? Then the Diospyros khaki 'Fau Fau' exactly what you are looking for. This rare, non-stringing variety from Japan gives you compact growth as well as exceptional sweetness - a true autumn surprise in pot!
Why choose Diospyros kaki 'Fau Fau'?
✔ Outlier in Europe - a rare Japanese cultivar with strong flavour and ornamental value
✔ Compact in size - perfect for pot or small garden, but highly productive
✔ Sweet and aromatic - edible at all stages, the riper the better honeyed taste
✔ Early ripening - fruits ripen as early as October and can stay on the tree extra long
✔ Exceptionally hardy - resistant and suitable for gardens with cold winters (zone 6B/7A)
The 'Fau Fau' produces flat, deep orange fruits that do not taste sour, even half-ripe. With a firm, honey-sweet flavour and crunchy texture, they are perfect for dessert or paired with warm autumnal dishes, such as game. You can harvest for up to a month without the fruit going soft.
Growth & care
Place this persimmon in a sunny, sheltered spot - such as against a wall. Prefers well-drained soil and is tolerant of calcareous to neutral soils (pH 5.5-7+). In winter, occasional watering is sufficient. Prune lightly in winter if necessary to maintain structure; fruit formation occurs on the new wood.
