This mulberry has strikingly large leaves and very aromatic dark purple mulberry berries. And is one of the best Mulberry varieties, Illinois Everbearing is prized for its tasty, long fruit and its long ripening season, late June to early fall. Mulberry fruit resembles a blackberry and has a delicious flavor. It can also be dried for a tasty winter snack. Mulberries are resistant to pests and diseases and form an attractive, small tree with dark green, large tropical leaves. Mulberries were widely cultivated along the ancient Silk Road in Central Asia for their leaves, which were used to feed silkworms.
