The Set of 2 Nursery Pears contains two Cydonia oblonga fruit trees. Each tree has a height of 60 cm and comes in a 9 cm pot.
Cydonia oblonga, better known as the Quince, has an ancient history. It is a slow grower that initially starts as a shrub, but eventually grows into a small tree with a height of about 5 metres. The tree's crown is dense and tends towards a broad, rounded shape. Although the initial growth is mainly in width, the tree later develops mainly in height. The young twigs are initially covered with a white-felted coat, but this soon disappears. Even the new leaves have a white-felt appearance.
Cydonia oblonga is known for its striking blossoms in spring and the fruits that develop into quinces after flowering. They thrive best in well-drained soil and a sunny location. The trees are hardy and require minimal care. Flowering is followed by the fragrant fruits, which are pear-shaped to inverted egg-shaped. However, these fruits ripen only when the plant is in a sheltered, warm spot. They are best for use after cooking in various dishes. Apart from the fruits, the Quince is also worth seeing for other reasons. Its beautiful blossoms and lovely yellow autumn colours add an aesthetic aspect to any garden.
With its rich history and versatile properties, Cydonia oblonga is a valuable addition to any garden.
