Bearberry, or Arctostaphylos uva-ursi, is a versatile and hardy groundcover that makes a charming addition to any garden. This set of four plants, supplied in 9 cm pots with a height of about 15 cm, is ideal for gardeners looking for a low-maintenance but visually appealing plant.
Features:
- Soil cover property: Bearberry is a low-growing, spreading shrub ideal for use as a ground cover. This plant can cover an area of about one metre and grows to a maximum height of 20 cm.
- Leaf and flower: The pale green, bulbous leaves are attractive and can change colour to bronze or bright red at low temperatures. In spring, Bearberry blooms with bell-shaped flowers that are white to pink in colour.
- Fruits: In late summer to autumn, the plant produces edible small, red berries. They are especially attractive to birds.
- Hardy and drought-tolerant: This plant is excellent hardy and can withstand dry conditions, making it suitable for both sunny and semi-shaded locations with well-drained soil.
- Maintenance: Bearberry requires minimal maintenance. Pruning is not usually necessary, but if desired, light pruning can be carried out after flowering or in spring to control growth.
Applications:
Bearberry is ideal for use in rock gardens, as a ground cover under trees or shrubs, and in areas where erosion control is needed. It is a wonderful choice for gardeners looking for a low-maintenance plant that offers decorative value throughout the year.
