Citrus auratifolia 'Mexican lime' are medium-sized and bushy, almost bushy, and the leaves are characteristically aromatic when crushed. Some selections are quite nettled, while others are thornless. Mexican lime trees are sensitive to cold. The blossoms are pure white and fragrant. The fruits are small, about an inch and a half in diameter, and almost round, with a thin, smooth, greenish-yellow skin. The flesh is greenish yellow, seedy and very acidic, with a fine texture. Once Mexican limes are fully mature, usually in autumn to early winter, they fall from the tree.
