Do you want to grow tasty oranges with a fresh hue AND harvest some before winter arrives? Then Citrus sinensis 'Newhall' your choice of choice. With early, juicy, seedless fruits and a charming spherical growth, this citrus adds both visual and culinary value to your garden.
Why choose Citrus sinensis 'Newhall'?
✔ Early harvestable orange variety: matures as early as October-November, weeks earlier than the standard Washington Navel
✔ Flavourful, seedless fruit: fresh-yellow skin, pale yellow pulp and sweet-aromatic flavour
✔ Compact, globular habit: perfect for patio or garden pots, with dark green, lanceolate leaves
✔ More resistant to cold than many sweet oranges: lasts down to about -9 °C in a greenhouse or sheltered environment
✔ Versatile in use: delicious fresh, pressed, used in marmalades, marinades, with fish and meat dishes or in liqueurs
Flowering & fruiting
'Newhall' blooms in spring with fragrant white blossoms. The fruits, slightly rounder or oblate compared to Washington Navel, ripen early. As a result, you can enjoy fresh orange fruits before it gets colder.
Pitch & Care
Place the tree in full sun in a sheltered spot. Plant in well-drained, nutritious soil. Water regularly during the growing season and fertilise with citrus food in spring. In cold winters, it is best to protect the tree or put it inside at temperatures below the -9 °C limit.
