Immediate results and production
These ‘old’ apple trees provide instant mature structure, character and yield in the garden; full-grown specimens in ample pots, ready for immediate planting.
The Malus domestica ‘James Grieve’ is a classic Scottish apple variety known for its juicy, soft and mildly fresh apples with a delicious aromatic flavour. The variety is versatile: perfect for eating fresh, but also excellent for juice, purée and baking. This old apple tree comes at a height of about 2 metres, raised in a 45 litre pot at rootstock M111. This powerful rootstock ensures a deep and stable root system, strong growth and a durable, vital tree that lasts a long time.
The James Grieve flowers profusely in spring with white to soft pink blossoms that attract many bees. Harvesting falls in the late summer, where the tree produces medium-sized, pale yellow apples with a soft texture and a fresh, mildly acidic flavour. This variety is partly self-pollinating, but gives significantly higher yields with suitable pollinators such as ‘Elstar’, ‘Cox Orange’ or ‘Groninger Kroon’.
This apple tree is hardy, resistant to changing weather conditions and prefers to stand on a sunny, fertile and well-drained soil. The vigour of the M111 rootstock makes this variety robust, durable and suitable for both gardens and orchards. Thanks to its mature age, the tree delivers fruit immediately and adds body and character to the garden.
For safe transport, these heavy trees are shipped on a pallet.
