These ‘old’ apple trees deliver instant character, fruit and atmosphere to your garden; mature specimens in spacious pots, ready for planting. Available in several varieties with proven flavour and growing characteristics:
The Malus domestica 'Elstar' is a classic Dutch apple variety, loved for its fresh, sweet-sour flavour and juicy flesh. This old apple tree is a beautiful, mature tree of about 1.8-2 metres high, grown in a large 45-litre pot. The tree already has a nice crown structure and can give plenty of fruit within a short time.
The Elstar blooms in spring with soft pink to white blossoms that attract many bees. A rich harvest of yellow-red apples, perfect for both direct consumption and making apple sauce or pies. This apple tree is self-pollinating, but gives higher yields when combined with other apple varieties such as ‘Cox Orange’ or ‘Jonagold’.
The tree is hardy, resists the Dutch climate well and prefers to grow in a sunny spot in nutritious, well-drained soil. Thanks to its mature age, this is an excellent choice for those who want to immediately place a mature fruit tree in the garden with character and appearance.
To prevent damage during transport, these heavy, mature trees are shipped safely on a pallet.
Advantages:
Large, mature apple tree (1.8-2m tall)
Rich crop of juicy, fresh-sweet Elstar apples
Beautiful spring blooms with bee-friendly blossoms
Hardy and easy to maintain
Be safely on pallet supplied for optimal protection during transport
Why choose this old fruit tree?
✔ Immediately visible size and mature structure: no waiting years for a mature tree
✔ Extensive range with classic and well-known apples for fresh consumption and processing
✔ Strongly hardy and suitable for use in temperate climates
Bloom & Fruits:
In spring, these trees bloom profusely with white to pink blossoms. Fruiting follows in summer and picking or harvesting time varies by variety (usually late summer-autumn). Apples are suitable for fresh use, mash or prepare depending on variety.
Pitch & care:
Give these trees a sunny to slightly shaded spot with a nutritious, well-drained soil. Avoid wet feet. Water is especially important in the first growing season after planting. Prune annually in winter or early spring to maintain shape and encourage fruit production.
