The Pyrus communis ‘Clapp’s Favourite’ is a classic American pear variety known for its large, juicy and aromatic fruits. The pears have a delicate, buttery texture and a warm yellow colour with a reddish blush on the sun-facing side. They are ideal for eating fresh and are highly prized for their rich, full flavour. This old pear tree is supplied at a height of approximately 2 metres, raised in a 45 litre pot at rootstock BA29. This rootstock provides a medium growth, a well-controlled crown and a reliable annual yield.

Clapp’s Favourite flowers in spring with pure white blossoms that attract lots of bees. The harvest takes place early in the late summer, with the tree producing large, soft and aromatic pears that are best left to ripen for a few days before eating. The variety is not self-pollinating, which is why a suitable pollinator such as ‘Beurré Hardy’, ‘Triomphe de Vienne’ or ‘Doyenné du Comice’ is recommended.

This pear tree is hardy, well suited to the Dutch climate and thrives best in a sunny, fertile and well-drained soil. Thanks to the BA29 rootstock, the tree is easy to maintain, easy to train and offers an excellent balance between growth and fruit production. As it is already mature, it can be harvested straight away and adds a mature look to the garden.
