Syringa vulgaris 'Nadezhda', also known as the Lilac 'Nadezhda', is a beautiful shrub with a modest growth pattern. With a vase-shaped crown that is semi-open, this variety is distinguished by the lovely fragrance of its striking blossoms. Belonging to the Oleaceae family, this plant can reach a height of about 3 to 5 metres. In May and June, cone-shaped panicles of purple-blue flowers adorn the bush, which butterflies love to visit. Another synonym for this variety is Syringa vulgaris 'Hope'. This shrub thrives best in fertile, moist and well-drained soil, preferring sunny positions, although it can also tolerate light shade.

The shrub has an irregular growth form and expands considerably, but also combines well with other shrubs in a larger border. The flowers are very popular as cut flowers. This variety is hardy and loses its leaves in autumn.
