Aronia prunifolia 'Viking' (Chokeberry) – The 'Viking' is an excellent choice for a sunny or semi-shaded garden. This plant blooms in May with white-pink, fragrant flowers that develop into aubergine-black berries with many nutrients. The berries have a tart taste, but are appreciated by birds and can be processed into juice, jelly or jam. The leaves change colour in the autumn to a beautiful colour combination of yellow, red and purple. Aronia prunifolia 'Viking' is self-pollinating, winter-hardy and deciduous. It is important to place the plant in a soil type that is not too heavy and avoid planting in loess or clay. Maintenance of the Chokeberry consists of removing old and dried-out branches in the spring, so that new shoots get more space and light.
