Albizia julibrissin ‘Ombrella’ is an ornamental tree with a characteristic, wide-growing crown shape. The name ‘Ombrella’ refers to this umbrella-like growth, where the branches spread horizontally and form an airy roof. This makes this dormant tree particularly suitable as a solitary, where its shape comes into its own.
The name sleeping tree comes from the behaviour of its leaves. In the evening, the finely pinnate leaves fold together, only to open again in the morning. This natural rhythm is clearly visible and makes the tree extra interesting in everyday use.
About Albizia julibrissin ‘Ombrella’ (Persian soporific tree)
‘Ombrella’ has fresh green, finely pinnate leaves that give a light, transparent appearance. Silky, pink flowers appear in summer, rising above the leaves. Flowering takes place from June to late summer, depending on location and weather.
The tree grows fairly quickly and develops into a medium-sized tree with a broad crown. Albizia julibrissin is deciduous and drops its leaves in autumn. It sprouts again in spring. The species likes a warm, sunny and sheltered location. In the open ground, protection from moderate frost is recommended, especially for young plants. This dormant tree also works well as a tub plant.
