Description
Aronia prunifolia 'Viking' is an excellent choice for a sunny or semi-shaded garden. The plant blooms in May with white-pink, fragrant flowers that develop into aubergine-black berries rich in nutrients. The berries have a tart flavour, but are appreciated by birds and can be made into juice, jelly or jam. The leaves turn to a beautiful colour combination of yellow, red and purple in autumn. Aronia prunifolia 'Viking' is self-pollinating, hardy and deciduous.
It is important to place the plant in soil that is not too heavy and avoid planting in loess or clay. Maintenance of the Appleberry consists of removing old and dried-out branches in spring to give new shoots more space and light. The plant comes in an 11×11 cm pot. It is recommended to plant 1 plant per square metre, the mature height is 200 cm.
