The Hydrangea arborescens ‘Annabelle’ is one of the most popular hydrangeas for the garden – and with good reason. This popular ball hydrangea blooms from July to September with spectacular, snow-white flower heads which can reach a diameter of up to 25 cm. The flowers appear on the previous year’s growth, which means you can safely prune ‘Annabelle’ back to about 30 cm above the ground every spring.
With its fresh, light-green foliage, vigorous growth habit and abundant flowers, ‘Annabelle’ is perfect for border planting, group plantings or as an eye-catcher in a semi-shaded front garden. It grows to a height of around 120 to 140 cm high and requires nutritious, well-drained and moist soil.
Please note: due to the large flower heads, the stems may bend in the rain or strong winds. We therefore recommend providing light support or planting in a sheltered spot. For those who value sturdy stems, the variety ‘Strong Annabelle’ also highly recommended.
After flowering, the flowers turn a purplish-brown in the autumn, adding ornamental value throughout the autumn and winter. Combine with an evergreen ground cover such as Pachysandra terminalis for an attractive appearance all year round.
An absolute classic for any gardening enthusiast.
