Immediate results and production
These ‘old’ apple trees instantly add character, structure and fruit to the garden; mature specimens in spacious pots, ready for planting.
The Malus domestica ‘Sweet Emgaard’ is a traditional Dutch apple variety that is prized for its smooth, sweet taste and a pleasant aroma. The apples are ideal for eating fresh, but are also suitable for light dishes such as compotes and desserts. This old apple tree is a mature specimen measuring approximately 2 metres high, grown in a 45 litre pot at rootstock M9. This rootstock provides a more compact growth, makes the tree easy to manage and at the same time ensures a rapid fruit production.
In spring, the Sweet Emgaard blooms with soft pink to white blossoms that attract many bees. The harvest follows in the late summer to early autumn, with the tree producing lovely pale yellow to soft pink apples with a distinctly sweet flavour. The variety is self-pollinating, but gives higher yields when combined with varieties such as ‘Elstar’, ‘Notarisappel’ or ‘Groninger Kroon’.
The tree is hardy and grows best in a sunny, fertile and well-drained soil. Thanks to the compact growth habit of the M9 rootstock, this variety is particularly well suited to smaller gardens, as a substitute for standard trees, or for fruit lovers who like to keep their trees neat and tidy.
For safe transport, these heavy trees are shipped on a pallet.
