The Rhododendron yakushimanum ‘Percy Wiseman’ is a compact, evergreen ornamental shrub that stands out for its unique salmon-pink blooms. This Rhododendron variety belongs to the Yakushimanum group and is known for its robustness, low maintenance requirements and beautiful flower colour that visually enriches any garden or border in late spring.

Flowering and growth habit
In May and June, ‘Percy Wiseman’ blooms with lush corymbs of salmon-pink flowers that subtly fade to cream towards the centre - a sophisticated colour gradient that creates a soft, romantic look. The shrub eventually reaches a height of about 125 cm, making it suitable for medium-height borders or informal hedges.

Thanks to its compact, bushy growth, this Rhododendron keeps its shape beautifully without much intervention. Its leaves are firm, dark green and remain on the plant even in winter - ideal for structural evergreen accents in the garden.

Stand and soil requirements
Like all Rhododendrons, ‘Percy Wiseman’ grows best in a spot in semi-shade, with shelter from bright afternoon sun. The ideal soil is acidic, moist, well-drained and humus-rich. When planting, add garden turf or DCM Vivimus to optimise acidity. Clay or loess soil is less suitable.

Care and pruning
‘Percy Wiseman’ hardly needs any pruning. If necessary, spent flowers can be carefully removed to encourage new growth. For topiary or rejuvenation, it can be lightly pruned after flowering in July. Sprinkle some garden turf around the root zone annually in spring for healthy growth.

Application
Thanks to its limited height and graceful appearance, this Rhododendron is ideal as a low hedge, solitary in a border or in combination with other acid-loving plants such as azaleas or ferns. Also suitable as a tub plant on a shady patio.
