This set of 3 Japanese maples has been specially put together for situations where space is limited, but ornamental value should be maximised. All three Acer palmatum species in this set are known for their compact to dwarf growth, making them particularly suitable for pots, small gardens, patios and sheltered borders. Their calm growth rate keeps them manageable for a long time without intensive pruning.
Compact-growing Japanese maples are ideal for lovers of sophisticated leaf colours who do not want or cannot plant a large tree. This set combines distinct spring colours with decorative summer foliage and a neat, dense structure. Even in pots, these maples maintain their graceful appearance and balance.
Contents of this set
- Acer palmatum ‘Beni-Maiko’ - compact growing shrub with bright pink spring foliage
- Acer palmatum ‘Iyoshi’ - variegated, compact maple with greenish-white leaves
- Acer palmatum ‘Little Princess’ - dwarf form with fine leaf structure
Notes by species
Acer palmatum ‘Beni-Maiko’
‘Beni-Maiko’ is a compact-growing Japanese maple that stands out exceptionally in spring. The young leaves sprout bright candy cane pink and provide a powerful colour accent in small size. Later in the season, the leaves turn from red to green with distinct veins. Due to its limited vigour, this maple remains nicely bushy and very suitable for pots and smaller gardens. The autumn colour is neat, but secondary to the spectacular spring shoot.
Acer palmatum ‘Iyoshi’
‘Iyoshi’ is a compact, variegated Japanese maple with green leaves and a distinct white margin. The leaves sprout pink in spring, followed by a fresh green-white leaf appearance in summer. The new growth tips often retain a pink hue, creating a lively appearance without the plant growing large. Its gentle growth and compact form make ‘Iyoshi’ ideal for pots, patios and sheltered areas of light shade.
Acer palmatum ‘Little Princess’
‘Little Princess’ is a true dwarf form among Japanese maples. This variety stays low and grows very slowly, with finely incised leaves and dense branching. This makes this maple perfect for small pots, low borders and minimalist gardens. Pruning is hardly necessary and the plant automatically maintains a neat, compact shape.
