The Lonicera caerulea ‘Strawberry Sensation’ is a modern, high-quality honeyberry variety from Canada that is popular for its large, aromatic berries with a subtle hint of strawberry. This variety combines high yields with excellent flavour and is perfect for both home gardens and commercial cultivation.

The shrub grows robustly and vigorously, reaching a height and width of around 150 cm after a few years. Thanks to its good branching, it forms a lovely, full shrub that comes into flower early in the season. The berries ripen from mid-June onwards, making this one of the later-ripening honeyberries. The fruits are large, deep blue, slightly round in shape and have a delicious sweet-and-sour flavour with a hint of strawberry.

‘Strawberry Sensation’ is not self-pollinating and produces the highest yield when grown alongside other late varieties such as Boreal Blizzard, Blue Treasure, Blue Pacific or Giant’s Heart. A mature plant can produce 3–4.5 kg of berries per season – perfect for eating fresh, making jam, juice, wine or desserts.

This cultivar is fully hardy, well-suited to our climate and thrives in both full sun and partial shade. It is best to choose humus-rich, well-drained and slightly acidic soil. When planting, you may wish to use Planting soil for fruit trees for the best possible start.
