The Actinidia arguta ‘Weiki’ is a male kiwi berry which does not bear fruit, but is essential for the pollination of female kiwi berry varieties such as ‘Ken's Red’, ‘Geneva’ or ‘Ananasnaya’. Without a male plant, no fruit! This set of four plants is ideal for fertilising several female kiwi berries at once in your garden or on your balcony.
The ‘Weiki’ is a strong-growing, hardy creeper which easily works its way up a fence, pergola or climbing frame. In June, it blooms with attractive, creamy-white flowers that attract bees and provide fruiting to nearby female plants. One male plant is usually enough to pollinate several females.
Planting tips: Give the plant a sunny to semi-shaded spot with well-drained, humus-rich soil. Support or guidance is desirable in the first few years. Although ‘Weiki’ does not produce kiwi berries itself, it is an indispensable matchmaker for a rich harvest in the female varieties.
