The Morus alba x rubra ‘Milanowek’ is a vigorous and hardy hybrid mulberry known for its bountiful harvest and delicious flavour. This variety combines the best of the white and red mulberry and is ideal for both gardeners and for planting in food forests. From the third year after planting, this tree begins to produce large, elongated, deep purple fruits with an intensely sweet and aromatic flavour.

The ‘Milanowek’ has a particularly long growing season, from June to the end of September. The tree eventually grows to a height of around 4 to 6 metres and develops a characteristic, irregular shape. The leaves are large and decorative, and also provide plenty of shade.

This mulberry is resistant to winter cold, but young plants may need some protection in the event of severe frost. In mild winters, such as that of 2020/2021, the ‘Milanowek’ proved to be fully hardy. For best results, plant the tree in a sunny to partially shaded spot in well-drained soil.

The fruits are not only delicious eaten fresh, but also perfect for making jam, juice or for freezing. What’s more, they’re packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals.
