Direct planting, any time of the year
Trachelospermum jasminoides, better known as Tuscan jasmine or star jasmine, is an evergreen climbing plant that is particularly prized for its wonderfully fragrant white flowers. From the start of summer, large numbers of small star-shaped flowers appear, giving off a sweet, jasmine-like scent.
This set consists of four young plants in a 9 cm pot. They can be used together to cover a fence, pergola, wall or climbing plant trellis, but are also suitable on their own for pots on a sunny terrace or balcony.

• Deliciously fragrant white star-shaped flowers
• Long flowering period in summer
• Evergreen and therefore decorative even in winter
• The leaves may turn a bronze-red colour in winter

• Mediterranean feel

These are young plants in a 9 cm nursery pot. The stated delivery height is therefore always approximate. Height, branching and the number of leaves may vary from plant to plant, depending on the season and natural growth.
Flowering and evergreen foliage
Trachelospermum jasminoides usually flowers from June onwards and can continue to produce new flowers throughout the summer until September. The white flowers have five distinctive, slightly twisted petals and give off a pleasant, sweet scent, particularly in warm weather.
The plant retains its ornamental value even outside the flowering season. The glossy dark-green foliage normally remains on the plant throughout the winter. In cold weather, parts of the foliage may turn bronze-red to dark red. This is a natural reaction to low temperatures.
Growth and climbing
Tuscan jasmine is a climbing plant that can eventually grow to a height of around 3 to 6 metres. Its final size depends on its location, pruning and the support available.
The plant is not self-clinging like ivy. Young shoots must therefore be trained along a trellis, wire, pergola or other support. Once the plant is well established, the long shoots can continue to weave their way through the structure.
Location and care
Plant Tuscan jasmine in a sunny to partially shaded spot, preferably one that is sheltered. A warm location encourages abundant flowering and helps the plant survive cold winters.
The soil must be rich in humus, nutritious and well-drained. It is particularly important during the winter that excess water can drain away properly.
Water these young P9 plants regularly after planting. Potted plants also need plenty of water on hot summer days.
Prune
Pruning is not essential, but Trachelospermum jasminoides tolerates pruning well. Shoots that are too long or unwanted can be cut back after flowering to keep the plant compact.
Regular, light pruning can also help to encourage the development of a fuller and better-branched climbing plant.
Winter care
Tuscan jasmine is fairly hardy and, in a sheltered position, can withstand temperatures of around -12 to -15°C. Young plants are more sensitive than older, well-established ones.
Cold easterly winds, prolonged severe frost and very wet soil are particularly likely to cause damage. You should therefore ideally place the plants in a sheltered spot, for example against a wall or a fence.
When growing in pots, extra winter protection is advisable, as the small root ball is more likely to freeze.
For a fragrant green discharge
With four young Tuscan jasmine plants, you can lay a good foundation for an evergreen, flowering hedge. Plant them along a trellis, pergola or fence and train the young shoots in the desired direction during the first few years.
Once fully established, Trachelospermum jasminoides combines evergreen foliage with a long period of wonderfully fragrant white summer flowers.
