Ficus carica ‘Icecrystal’ is an unusual fig tree that is particularly notable for its strongly incised leaves. The deep grooves and narrow leaf lobes give the leaf a crystal-like shape. Because of this leaf structure, the leaf is reminiscent of an ice crystal, which directly explains the origin of the name ‘Icecrystal’.
Growth is vigorous but well-controlled. This fig tree develops into a medium-sized tree and is suitable for planting in the open ground in a warm, sheltered spot, but also for use in larger pots. With its striking leaf shape, ‘Icecrystal’ has clear ornamental value even without fruit.
About Ficus carica ‘Icecrystal’
The leaves of ‘Icecrystal’ are fresh green and deeply incised, with an open, almost lacy appearance. In autumn, the leaves turn yellow before falling off. In winter, the tree is leafless and dormant, before sprouting again in spring.
The fig tree likes sun and warmth and grows best in well-drained, humus-rich soil. Shelter from cold winds benefits growth. Hardiness is good, but young plants benefit from protection in severe frosts.
