The Juglans regia ‘Chandler’ is a high-yielding walnut tree from California that is renowned worldwide for its large, well-filled nuts and reliable yield. This variety combines healthy growth with excellent nut quality, making it very popular with both amateur gardeners and professional nut growers. The tree is a late-budding variety, flowering in May, and is therefore more resistant to spring frosts.

The ‘Chandler’ is a medium to large tree with a broad, rounded crown and elegant, pinnate leaves that turn a warm yellow-brown in autumn. The nuts are large, well-shaped and tightly closed. Thanks to their thin, easily cracked shell and light-coloured, mild flesh, they are among the tastiest walnut varieties. Harvesting usually takes place in October, when the husk bursts open naturally and the nuts are ripe.

The Juglans regia ‘Chandler’ is self-pollinating, but for an even higher yield, cross-pollination with, for example, Juglans regia ‘Franquette’ or Juglans regia ‘Fernor’ highly recommended.
