Magnolia ‘Betty’ is an enchanting spring bloomer that immediately attracts attention with its impressive purple-pink flowers. This ornamental shrub grows slowly into a medium-sized shrub or compact tree 4 to 6 metres tall, with an elegant, slightly irregular crown. In April and May, the large tulip-shaped flowers appear with a diameter of up to 20 cm: purple-red on the outside, soft pink to white on the inside. Flowering begins on bare branches, making the flower experience extra spectacular.

After flowering, the plant sprouts fresh green leaves that turn a beautiful golden yellow in autumn. Magnolia ‘Betty’ is very hardy and can withstand temperatures down to -25°C. The plant likes a sheltered, sunny spot and a humus-rich, slightly acidic soil. Its relatively late flowering makes it less susceptible to damage from night frost than many other magnolias. Occasionally a second flowering follows in summer.

Thanks to its compact growth habit, Magnolia ‘Betty’ is a perfect choice for larger borders, as a solitary in a lawn or as an eye-catcher in the front garden.
