Planting and preparation
espalier trees are preferably planted in autumn or early spring. Ensure a straight planting line and enough space between trees for even growth. Make a spacious planting hole and improve the soil if necessary. Water adequately after planting.
Stand and soil
Slate trees grow best in a place with sufficient light.
- A sunny to semi-shaded location is ideal
- Well-drained, nutrient-rich soil promotes healthy growth
- Shelter from strong winds helps with tight layering
Care during the year
- Water regularly, especially in the first year after planting
- Mulch around the trunk helps retain moisture and improves the soil
- In spring, light fertilisation supports growth
Pruning and maintenance
Good maintenance keeps the slate shape sleek and neat.
- Prune several times a year to maintain the espalier shape
- Remove flared branches outside the slate shield
- Check and adjust binding materials in a timely manner
With proper care, espalier packages provide a durable, green partition that adds privacy and appearance to the garden for years to come.
