The Juglans regia ‘Lara’ is a particularly flavourful and productive walnut variety, originating from France. This modern variety combines the charm of a classic walnut tree with the reliability of an improved, fast-fruiting variety. ‘Lara’ grows into a medium-sized tree about 8-12 metres tall with a compact, round crown and firmly formed branches. This makes it ideal for gardens, orchards or food forests where a strong, healthy walnut is desired.

Hanging male catkins and female flowers appear in May, followed by large, round nuts with a thin, easily cracked shell. The kernel is light-coloured, well-filled and has an exceptionally rich, aromatic flavour. The nuts are excellent for eating fresh, drying or using in cakes and dishes. The tree bears at an early age and produces a generous harvest of quality walnuts every year.

The Juglans regia ‘Lara’ grows best in a sunny, sheltered spot in well-drained, calcareous soil. This walnut is self-pollinating, but a second race nearby - such as Juglans regia ‘Chandler’ or Juglans regia ‘Franquette’ - ensures an even richer harvest. Combine it for a varied nut garden with our Pistachio trees set (Pistacia vera) and create a healthy, Mediterranean atmosphere in your own garden.

✔ Productive French walnut tree - Juglans regia ‘Lara’
✔ Large nuts with a thin shell and a full, aromatic flavour
✔ Compact growth - suitable for garden and orchard
✔ Self-pollinating, with high yields from a young age
✔ Late flowering - less susceptible to night frost
✔ Very hardy and wind-resistant
