The Diospyros khaki ‘Rojo Brilliante’ is het iconische Spaanse kakiras uit de regio Valencia, het ras dat je vaak in de supermarkt ziet. The tree bears richly and reliably, with straight growth and medium vigour. Female flowers appear in May-June, after which the fruits develop quietly until deep into autumn. ‘Rojo Brilliante’ is one of the last ripening persimmons, with a harvest period from November to January. This sometimes requires ripening indoors, but the flavour you get in return is phenomenal: honey-sweet, aromatic and intense.

This variety is reasonably hardy, but young shoots can freeze in severe frosts. Therefore, plant the tree in a sheltered, sunny spot or consider a greenhouse/serre if you want optimal results. For a strong start, use Planting soil for fruit trees.

‘Rojo Brilliante’ is self-pollinating, but bears even better when combined with a pollinator such as the Diospyros kaki ‘Pollinator’. For extra variety, combine it with varieties such as ‘Jiro’ or the sweet ‘Sweet 500’.
